Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado Seeks Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator

VOC seeks Volunteer and Partnership Coordinator at San Luis Valley Public Lands Center, Monte Vista, Colorado.

The San Luis Valley Public Lands Center (SLVPLC) recognizes the need for a volunteer and partnership program coordinator to provide leadership and coordination in order to take advantage of youth corps, volunteers and partnerships in the San Luis Valley to care for public lands.  The SLVPLC recognized VOC’s leadership in the field of volunteer management and on the ground project coordination and formed a partnership to create this position in May, 2009.  The current position is funded initially for 10 months with the desire to continue it on an ongoing basis.

2012 Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Ranger Internship Announcement

The Selway-Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation, in partnership with the Nez Perce, Clearwater and Bitterroot National Forests, and Montana Conservation Corps, will be offering up to nine Wilderness Ranger Internship positions in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness during the summer of 2012 for students enrolled in wilderness management, recreation management or natural resource management academic programs.  Application deadline is February 29, 2012.

Grant Opportunity with National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) in cooperation with its federal partners, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Forest Service (FS), and Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) announce a new initiative to connect youth to the outdoors by providing financial support for youth conservation job training programs.

We Lose a Wilderness Champion

Ralph Swain wrote this morning to pass along this notice from Wilderness Watch.  Ralph added a simple note: "We lost a wilderness champion."

Dear friends:

It is with great sadness that Wilderness Watch announces the death of Bill Worf, our founder, long-time board member, president emeritus, and inspirational leader.  He was 85.  Bill died of natural causes at his home in Missoula, Montana.

Bill dedicated his life to making certain the ideals expressed in the Wilderness Act would live on in the National Wilderness Preservation System.  No one alive, then or now, worked as hard or with such great principle toward that goal.
