Sixteen wilderness stewardship organizations from around the nation and representatives from six national NGOs, plus assorted students and expert consultants, met in Fort Collins, CO, March 5-7, 2010 to discuss the value of a national network of wilderness stewardship groups and to outline its functions, initial structure, and mission. The 40 attendees agreed on the strong need to work together, and formed the National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance. |
Outcomes of meeting
Accomplishments included agreeing on a name: National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance; drafting a mission statement; identifying core functions/goals; establishing task forces, with individuals signing up for them; securing a domain name; establishing an initial steering committee; and outlining next steps.
