Beginning last August (2009) and continuing this year Friends of the Inyo sponsored, in partnership with the Inyo National Forest, a volunteer Wilderness campsite inventory program. This program consists of a multi day training in which volunteers are trained in Forest Service campsite inventory protocol and Wilderness protocol. After completion of the training volunteers signed up for 3 day tours and were given a per-diem food stipend for their patrol.
Last season we inventoried many of the previously un-inventoried areas of the Golden Trout Wilderness. This year we will once again be offering the training to new volunteers and will be completing the Golden Trout Wilderness and moving into the South Sierra Wilderness and the Boundary Peak Wilderness. It is looking to be a very productive program once again this year as interest has already picked up in the area and elsewhere.
