    Development Coordinator

    Position Description


    Position Title: Development Coordinator

    Position Type: 20 hours per week

    Location: Basalt, Colorado – RFOV offices

    Compensation: Hourly rate will be commensurate with experience

    Reports To: RFOV Executive Director


    Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers (RFOV) is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote stewardship of our public lands by engaging the community in volunteer trail and restoration projects.


    The Development Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director and will be responsible for developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies to support the mission and programs of the organization.


    Position Description:

    • Work with the Executive Director, Youth Coordinator, and the Board of Directors to expand and implement a strategic, sustainable, long-range fundraising plan. Fundraising strategies will include but are not limited to: grant proposals, corporate solicitations, major gift and membership campaigns, annual appeals, and special events.

    • Maintain systems and records for implementing and reporting funding activities.

    • Provide accurate and timely follow-up and reports to donors.

    • Maintain and enhance success of current development activities and RFOV special events.

    • Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, and Marketing & Publications Committee members to help develop a strategic, creative marketing plan to strengthen visibility to support RFOV’s fundraising efforts.




    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Develop a fundraising plan and program that will help to ensure a diverse and sustainable funding base to support current and future RFOV programs.

    • Research, identify, cultivate, and maintain corporate donors. Develop, implement, and solicit corporate sponsorships for RFOV projects, programs and special events.

    • Build and help maintain RFOV’s grants calendar. Research potential funders and schedule introductory meetings as necessary. Write and submit grant proposals with all necessary supporting information. Acknowledge grants and complete all necessary grant reports.

    • Develop and implement strategies to increase large donor acquisition and retention including membership appeals, annual campaigns and donor recognition.

    • Involve the Board of Directors and other volunteers in fundraising efforts.

    • Prepare fundraising synopsis and other reports as requested by the RFOV’s Executive Director and Board of Directors.

    • Participate in the implementation of a strategic, creative marketing plan to support RFOV programs and fundraising efforts.

    • Other duties as assigned: Perform related duties as required for purposes of supporting and strengthening the mission and purpose of RFOV.




    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred, however, applicable work experience may substitute for the educational preferences.

    • Two to three years of nonprofit fundraising experience.

    • Significant experience with prospect identification, solicitation, grant/sponsorship writing, and donor relations.

    • Excellent written, presentation and oral communication skills. Comfortable building relationships and interacting with members of the Board of Directors, partner organizations, land management agencies, and philanthropic leaders.

    • Self-directed, highly motivated, reliable, with a result and solution oriented perspective, organized with an attention to detail, flexible with strong time-management skills.

    • Strong conservation ethic and belief in RFOV’s mission, including its work with youth which is currently RFOV’s largest area of growth.

    • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, email, and the internet.

    • Some local travel, night meetings and weekends required.
