Competition was fierce for the first ever National Forest System Trail Stewardship Grants.  90 organizations submitted applications, worth more than $1,000,000 for the limited funding of $230,000.  A total of 23 organizations are to receive the first cycle of these grants.  Read more about the Trail Grants....

NWSA, in partnership with the Back Country Horsemen of America, the American Hiking Society, the International Mountain Biking Association, the American Motorcycle Association, and the Blue Ribbon Coalition, along with our sponsor, the USDA Forest Service, collaborated in the review of the 90 submissions.  Projects ranged in size from small scale trail improvement projects to massive trail maintenance and clearing across 100's of miles.  Read the News Release here.  Read the Fact Sheet here.

These first ever National Forest System Trail Stewardship Grants are a great start to implementing the National Forest System Trail Stewardship Act, direction from Congress for the Forest Service to increase volunteer trail maintenance on the National Forests.
