Join Colleen Fisk (Alaska) and Mack Long (Montana) from Backcountry Horsemen of America to learn about BCHA's Light on the Land education materials for low-impact stock use in the front and back country, their history of collaboration with the US Forest Service, the relevance of horse packing today, and hear some of their personal stories riding in some of the US's most beautiful locations.

Colleen Fisk, Education Director for Back Country Horsemen of America (BCHA), grew up camping and horseback riding in southcentral Alaska. She joined the Alaska Chapter of BCHA when it was started in 2013 conveniently as she was returning from college with a BS in Animal Science and a Master's in Education. BCHA is a national non-profit volunteer-led organization dedicated to keeping trails open for everyone. We partner with many other organizations in 32 states across the US including federal, state, and local agencies.

Mack Long is currently the State Chair for Back Country Horsemen of Montana. He has been in BCH of Montana for 36 years. He spent 30 years in Fish, Wildlife and Natural Resource management before retiring in 2013. After retirement, Mack and his wife Connie owned and operated an Outfitting business in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, sharing Wilderness values and spectacular scenery with folks from around the world. Mack currently teaches Horse and Mule packing classes along with "Light on the Land" techniques for stock users. He continues to work closely with the US Forest Service and other Federal Agencies on Land Management Issues.

Back Country Horsemen of America is a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization comprised of grassroots members who help carry forward BCHA’s mission and values throughout the United States and Canada. BCHA members volunteer their time and stock working closely with trail partners and local land management agencies to clear and maintain trails.
